Dr. Pera has an extensive background working with diverse populations to advance community health and wellness and because of this she is able to hold space for how systems of oppression impact individual health and wellness.  She strongly believes that to achieve optimal health —  physical, mental and emotional aspects of health must be addressed — along with broader societal injustices.

She wears another hat in her professional life as the Lead Physician of the Food as Medicine Institute (FAMI) where she facilitates community-based nutrition education programs, including the Food as Medicine Everyday series at the National University of Natural Medicine.  She received her doctorate degree from the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) and her undergraduate degree in sociology and anthropology from Mills College.  During her free time she enjoys cooking delicious meals for her family and friends and tries not to become too agitated when her toddler throws the fruits of her labor on the ground, enjoys spending time outdoors but equally enjoys time on the couch.  She is a lifelong learner and recognizes how some tenants are timeless and some change with the times!
